In the latest United Nations Security Council session, delegates face a diplomatic stalemate on the
topic of Sino-Indian Border Dispute as they struggle to find a solution as they were divided
between those who agreed with bilateral methods and those who support a multilateral approach.
The debate began with delegates trying to find the root cause of the problem and advocating for
the border. However, once they started discussing multilateral and bilateral solutions, they
quickly got confused for what they were fighting for and their real reasons, causing a back and
forth argument between many groups.
Many nations felt separated and struggled to work together, leading to South Korea, China, and
the USA to form their own groups and argue about the matter. China then proposed to strengthen
their existing frameworks such as their 1993 and 1996 peace agreements, Confidence Building
Measures (CBM), and Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC),
refusing any external discussions and insisting that the discussion should only stay between the
two countries involved.
Meanwhile India shared their frustration over the lack of actual results from past frameworks and
suggested focusing on the future. The delegate of India then proposed a UN-supervised mapping
and verification mission to properly assess the border from both sides with no bias.
However the UNSC has yet to take proper action on this matter, as China’s power continues to
block any intervention and other nations that constantly disagree with one another. The council
remains stuck , with debates ongoing but slow progress.
